Teachers do the most important work in the world

Writer's picture: Alison WillisAlison Willis

I think teachers do the most important work in the world, and music teachers are no exception. Over the last 25 years, I've taught in private and public sectors, from primary to tertiary, across three countries and two languages. I love learning from other people and sharing what I can do as well. Curious people are my favourite and, to me, learning new things is the most fun thing to do. My frustrations are dogmatic, inflexible systems and people who try to force the complexity of living and learning into those systems, often for the sake of their own advancement rather than the good of their peers or students. We need truly innovative solutions to carry us forward into a bright future and we stifle the spark of creativity in teachers and learners at our peril. .
